Book Tag!

While I guess I could excuse myself, I won't because I need something to blog about today. By virtue of reading this blog, I've been tagged.

Here's how you do it:
1. Locate the nearest book that has a 123+ pages in it.
2. Go to page 123.
3. Find the 5th sentence.
4. Post that sentence and the 3 that follow.
5. Tag 5 people.

Here are mine:

Spider Jerusalem: "Surely my very presence fucks with their world anyway."
Technician Lady: "Nah. We've got a toggle on their memories. They'll accept you when they see you and forget about you and the city once you're gone."

(Book 2 of Transmetropolitan happens to be sitting at my elbow underneath a gray cat. )

Let's see.....I'll tag you, you, you, you, and you.

Daniel, a sadistic killer who believes he has a demonic fish living in his ear:
"They'd finally stopped..."

Suzanne, his girlfriend, as he's choking her:

"AHT--"

Daniel (yelling, with emphasis on the "I")
"I took care of everything!"

Yet, there was this tree growing in the yard. When Francie first saw it, it was only up to the second story; she could look down on it from her window. It looked like a packed crowd of people of assorted sizes, standing umbrella-protected in the rain.

Guess what book...

They await the lot which shall assign them to their Grecian lords and scatter them among the cities of their foes. All things are ready for the start. But now the ghost of Achilles has risen from the tomb, and demanded that Polyxena be sacrificed to him before the Greeks shall be allowed to sail away. And Calchas, also, bids that Astyanax be slain, for only thus can Greece be safe from any future Trojan War.

From Loeb Classical Library, SENECA VIII TRAGEDIES I, No. 62. Good thing it was page 123 on the English side, and not page 124, which is the Latin side.

And yes, this was really closest book, actually on my desk directly between my keyboard and computer screen.

"He could make out her white fingers clawing at her hair. And it seemed she crossed her breasts with her arms like a saint and bowed her head as if she were pulling herself down. He saw the white nape of her neck, her hair parting, falling in front of her like a veil.
"What will you do?" she asked suddenly."

I turned around toward the bookcase behind me, closed my eyes, and just randomly grabbed something off a shelf. And what was my blind pick? Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice.

NO fair Brannon.

Go to page 3 and draw what you find there. Then draw the next three pictures after that.

"But there is no substitute for confronting the text itself. I cannot judge the quality of the Arabic; perhaps it is sublime. But the book's contents are not. On almost every page, the Koran instructs observant Muslims to despise non-believers."

"From the many firings starting toward them, it looked as if they would merely succeed in making a great sprinkling of corpses on the grass between their former position and the fence. But they were in a state of frenzy, perhaps because of sublime recklessness. There was no ovbious questioning, nor figurings, nor diagrams. There were, apparently, no considered loopholes."

Funny thing is, the first book I reached for was, "Of Mice and Men" and it only had 107 pages. Damn those American classics short stories.

Tammy posted a similar book tag on her blog, and I wasn't sure if she wanted more comments posted on your blog or hers. As such, I'll just post mine to both places. Forgive me if I've intruded on your party.

Dark rings circled his father's eyes, and his flesh seemed to sag around his cheeks. Samuel had never seen his father in such a state. He wanted to run over and hug him. "Billy's called for a debate."

Stephen, you are NEVER an intrusion -- in fact, Elaine tagged YOU on her blog!

Elaine, like you, is also a talented writer -- I hope you'll check out her writing blogs...
