Audience Participation Day!

We haven't had one of these in a long, long time, and I'm not saying it's going to be a recurring thing, like, ever again, but I need something.

I just got this phone, my first-ever cell phone upgrade in five years, and--get this--it will actually play something other than rinky-dink midi-sounding crap when someone calls me, and it's so so easy to chop up an mp3 file into a thirty-second ringtone that even I can do it.

But the transition from picking one little midi file that I don't hate too much to hear three or four times a day out of a list of 20 or so was actually pretty simple; now I have about 6000 songs on my hard drive to choose from.

My question for you is, what is the most awesome ringtone ever? I need about a 30-second snippet of a song (sorry, the 8-minute "Mariner's Revenge" is out) or a sound effect that I will not only love, but that will make me seem even more awesome when other people hear it coming out of my pocket, and maybe also make them laugh, or believe that I am possibly the coolest person they know.

For those of you who are new to Dinosaur comics, the BEST part of the comic is the mouse-over to read after reading the comic... and incidentally, XKCD and A Softer World also have mouse-overs. I read those comics for like 2 months before I realized this, then I had to go back and re-read them all.

It's too bad Dinosaur Comics doesn't have a theme song. I would so use that as my ringtone.

As far as ringtones go, I claim the most awesome of all time; none can touch this one(and no, it's NOT "Can't Touch This," though I also have that ringtone as a backup)in terms of sheer greatness. Click HERE to hear it.

I just upgraded too, like the first time in 7 years for me! The ringtone from my last phone was the awesomest! As soon as I record it into B's computer... I'll send you the file. It came with my phone and I can't find online.

"Holy" shit, Tyson! You're right -- that's the greatest ringtone ever. I got NOTHIN' that can top that!

Mind if I act like a complete poser and steal it? Cuz it REALLY fits in with my own particular idiom... :-)

I don't even know what my ring tone is supposed to be. I think I picked the least offensive one of the short list on my phone.

I have always been partial to classical music renditions as ring tones - they tend to be less shocking to the psyche than, say, sudden blasts of rock music that I've often heard come from other phones. Classical can just sort of sneak up on you, a few soft notes leading to more, letting you know your phone needs attention without causing the nearest 20 people to test their heart medication.

The sound for a text message is this nice little flamenco-sounding chord. It sounds like the first note of a Gipsy Kings song. Maybe I could be thematic and put the techno version of "Bamboleo" on for the ringer, if I can find it on my hard drive.

The "just a good ole' boys" one.

Seriously.

Devyn was beside me while I was reading your blog... he recognized your song from Holy Grail. I was impressed! I like that my 8 year old son has sufficient background knowledge to participate on your blog. Though, when we watched the movie I did fast forward through the spanking scene... for 2 weeks both Devyn and Braxton followed me around the house, "Why did they want to spank those girls?"
